Ubuntu box won't connect through bridge

After many problems with various wireless adapters i've decided to use my laptop to bridge a connection to my ubuntu box. it gets an ip address, broadcast address and all that, but whenever i open up firefox i get 'address not found' (after about 5 minutes of searching) and when i go to browse my network i see the 'windows network.' when that is clicked on i just get a blank window.

any ideas how to get this to work?
