If you are trying to write programs I think all you should need is the JDK
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jdk

To bilol, maybe your top priority should be getting the internet connection. After that, installing things like Java becomes a piece of cake.

Thanks for your advise. But due to certain reasons it is not possible for me to connect that Ubuntu machine to internet. Please tell me some other way outs.
Shall I download some files(rpm)and install them later? If so please tell me the name of the files to be downloaded and the link where those files reside.
    Thanks in advance...
