    Re: Conky Rhythmbox Python Script

    Cavsfan, I tried your conky / template combuination and found I wasn't getting the image displayed at all for some reason. So, I had a play about with them and found that if I moved the image variable to the top of the template file, the image displayed properly - right size, position.

    Here's the amended template:

    Code:
    ${image [--datatype=CA] -n -p 0,0 -s 80x80}
    ${color3}Status:${color1}[--datatype=ST]
    ${color3}Artist:${color1}[--datatype=AR]
    ${color3}Album:${color1}[--datatype=AL]
    ${color3}Title:${color1}[--datatype=TI]
    ${color3}Position:${color1}[--datatype=PT]/[--datatype=LE] - [--datatype=PP]%
    ${color3}Rating:${color1}[--datatype=RT]
    ${color3}Volume:${color1}[--datatype=VO]
    You might need to play about with positioning and size of the text to get everything as you want it - I had to move the "Rhythmbox Is Now Playing" line down a bit to get it lined up.

    Fingers crossed!

    PP

    I'm having trouble getting Rhythmbox working on my conky set-up. Here is what I get when I type: 'conkyRhythmbox -v'

    Can anyone help me get my Rhythmbox working? Is there anything else I need to post? My Rhythmbox.py script or something? Any help appreciated.

    Viola! That worked perfectly!!! Well, the picture resized perfectly at least.
    The picture is perfectly placed, but there is some garbage at the bottom where the only thing I would think is displayed is volume.

    Excellent - progress!

    I'm beginning to think there's a problem with the conkyrhythmbox script (sorry, kaivalagi...) such that the last entry in a template file doesn't display correctly. While I was testing your script, console errors of the "unknown command {ima}" variety appeared. At that point, the "image" variable was last in in the template.

    To test, kill conky and re-run it from the console - note down any error messages and post them.

    You could also try moving the template contents back to the main conky script. I haven't tried doing that yet, but there's a chance it'll work ok - in which case, the problem looks to be in the parsing of the template.

    It might be worth posting what worked though, I suspect conky has a bug...?

    Glad you got it working anyway

    Mmmmm, I would think it's the parsing execp/execpi having issue as this hasn't been a problem before now. In fact I use the same template file consuming code in all my scripts, my forecast one for example has images on the last line:
    Code:
    ...
    ${color1}${font Liberation Sans:style=Bold:size=9}[--datatype=DW --centeredwidth=15 --startday=3]
    ${voffset 70}${color1}${font}[--datatype=CT --centeredwidth=15 --startday=3]
    ${color1}${font}[--datatype=HT --centeredwidth=7 --startday=3]/[--datatype=LT --centeredwidth=7 --startday=3]
    ${color1}${font}[--datatype=WS --imperial --centeredwidth=15 --startday=3]
    ${color1}${font}[--datatype=WD --centeredwidth=15 --startday=3]
    ${color2}${hr}
    ${image [--datatype=WI] -p 5,60 -s 64x64}
    ${image [--datatype=WI --startday=0] -p 5,205 -s 64x64}
    ${image [--datatype=WI --startday=1] -p 5,355 -s 64x64}
    ${image [--datatype=WI --startday=2] -p 5,505 -s 64x64}
    ${image [--datatype=WI --startday=3] -p 5,650 -s 64x64}
    ${image [--datatype=MI] -p 53,60 -s 16x16}
    What happens if you put a simple carriage return on the last line of the template, still having images rendered from the end of the template?

    The conkyRhythmbox -v output looks fine, TI is the default datatype if not set and that's what you got output for.

    What happens if you run this command in the terminal/console i.e. the one doing stuff in your conkyrc:

    Code:
    conkyRhythmbox -t /home/realeyes/.conkycolors/templates/conkyPlayer.template --verbose
    You may also what to delete the lines after this command in your conkyrc that are currently commended out, the conkyrc is not a true script so expect strange behaviour due to lots of lines commended out such as conky windows being longer than you want etc.

    If I do that with Cavsfan's script, the image isn't displayed, though the correct details for "Volume" are output. Same if I delete the CR on the end of the line.

    When I move the image variable to the top, it displays, but the "volume" output doesn't. I'm presuming a conky with "bottom left" alignment expands "up the screen" (in the same way that one with "top right" alignment expands "down the screen") so the more lines of output that conky displays, the further up the screen the output will start.

    I tried adding a copy of the Volume variable to the bottom of the template:

    Code:
    ${image [--datatype=CA] -n -p 0,0 -s 80x80}
    ${color3}Status:${color1}[--datatype=ST]
    ${color3}Artist:${color1}[--datatype=AR]
    ${color3}Album:${color1}[--datatype=AL]
    ${color3}Title:${color1}[--datatype=TI]
    ${color3}Position:${color1}[--datatype=PT]/[--datatype=LE] - [--datatype=PP]%
    ${color3}Rating:${color1}[--datatype=RT]
    ${color3}Volume:${color1}[--datatype=VO]
    ${color3}Volume:${color1}[--datatype=VO]
    to see if it's just the last variable that doesn't get actioned, but the volume didn't display even then, although I do get spurious output (see the screenshot). I also get theses errors in console:

    Code:
    Conky: unknown variable col
    So, still looks like a parsing issue somewhere. Apologies for maligning your excellent script earlier - you're right, of course - it looks like a conky isuse.

    Conky: unknown variable col
    Ooooo, this could be a big clue!

    "${col" could be a truncated "${color3}" etc, try upping the text buffer size in conky, it might be running out of buffer for all this text which would explain all the bizarre unexplainable behaviour with the images etc

    Copied from the first post of the forecast script:
    Conky has a default limitation of 128 bytes for any text output from a variable (such as execi). If you are creating large templates with more characters than the default buffer size can handle, the output will get truncated. If this happens you can override the default behaviour by setting as new buffer size before the TEXT section in your conkyrc file, as follows:
    Code:
    text_buffer_size 1024
    Just keep increasing it until the script works okay...

    No worries, I'll be the first to admit a fault with the script and fix it, it's just not changed enough for a long time to be it

    Yes! That's it! I changed it to 1024 - still the same issue. Upped it to 2048, and - to use Cavsfan's term - voila! Perfect output. Screenie att.

    Now all we need to do is wait for Cavsfan to turn up and try it out...

    Thanks to both of you! This was my whole problem! My .conkyrc did not have this variable in it.
    When I added it everything looks perfect! I put everything in the template and put the album art line at the top.

    I changed maximum_width from 280 to 320 too.

    Now, if someone could help me figure out how to get my cpu temperature folder back for my 3rd core I would be happy as a clam!
    When I updated to the new kernel the other day it some how deleted a folder that tells conky the cpu temp. of my 3rd core!

    The other 3 are still there and I cannot figure out how to get the missing one back.
