    [SOLVED] Rename syntax

Hey! Have a need for renaming many files and it looks like rename will do the trick but I have a question re: it's use. The man page mentioned a perl expression, so, is this the link that can explain a perl expression??? http://search.cpan.org/dist/perl/pod/perlre.pod

    TIA,

    Re: Rename syntax

I could never figure out 'rename' either. I just use 'cp'.

Use cp to create a copy of the file with the new name.

    Re: Rename syntax

Thanks people but I don't think mv and cp are talented enough! I've found a perl-doc-html package and have dl'ed to read up on perl expressions. I think perl syntax is widely used in *nix installs so, time to read!
