Re: Linux driver for EasyCap USB2.0 Video Adapter DC60

    Hi,

No, it's not your fault. Either there is some audio hardware on your computer which needs the module snd_usb_audio, or that module is being loaded indirectly by some action of wine or your games software. My script ./install.sh tries to remove the snd_usb_module, but fails if the snd_usb_audio module is in use. (In my experience it is necessary to remove the snd_usb_audio module temporarily during installation, because otherwise it will prevent my driver from taking control of the EasyCAP's sound channel later when the EasyCAP is plugged in. I have never understood why this problem arises, and I feel sure there's a better way around it, but nobody has told me what the solution is.)

You could edit the script ./install.sh as follows. Find line 587, which is

    Code:
echo "ERROR: snd_usb_audio module cannot be removed"
    then change line 588 from

    Code:
        exit 1
    to

    Code:
    # exit 1
and try reinstalling the driver. If this succeeds, you may get the EasyCAP working for video, though I doubt that the audio will work properly.

Re: Linux driver for EasyCap USB2.0 Video Adapter DC60

    Mike,
thank you that worked to install it... now the only thing is i cannot get good video. Just lines and grainy video. I tried 2 different devices. same thing. I though it might be the device (security cam) maybe not.
1 question: is the yellow rca cable (like for dvd) is that the same as the input wire on the easycap labeled "cvbs"?

DO i need to download video drivers for my ubuntu? i can watch dvd on my pc, youtube, flash... do i need some other video support?

    Thanks for the help.

Re: Linux driver for EasyCap USB2.0 Video Adapter DC60

    Hi Tobe,

It's disappointing that you are getting poor video quality. If you're sure the cables and connections are good, it is always possible that the EasyCAP itself has poor internal connections or some other hardware problem. Does the EasyCAP give a good picture on machines using Microsoft Windows?

I have a PAL camera here. The video output is on a lead with a yellow plug, and I connect this to the yellow CVBS plug on the EasyCAP. So I think your connections are probably correct.

Drivers are associated with particular pieces of hardware. If you can successfully play DVDs and view YouTube videos I expect you already have most of what you need.

Re: Linux driver for EasyCap USB2.0 Video Adapter DC60

    Mike,
I was messing with the Iput configuration, and a few of those attempts gave me video. but it would immidietly go to bars (white, to gray to black) now i only get the bars. i dont know what input configuration. COuld this be because of what is described in the read me.

"---(1)---: Intentionally, this driver will not stream material which is
unambiguously identified by the hardware as copy-protected. Normal video
output will be present for about a minute but will then freeze."

Still poking around.. but i dont want to do anything to drastic and make it worse. I considered trying the s-video... but the adapter is 19.99... and well im cheap.

is there a way to stop the copy protection thing to eliminate that as the problem. before i spend 19.99 on an adapter?

    Hi Tobe,

I have never tested the driver with S-Video because I don't own any equipment with S-Video output, but I doubt whether the adapter you mention will solve anything (I could be wrong, of course).

I am trying to use this adapter with 10.10 64bit. The driver installed OK with no errors, but when I run testPAL.sh I get a few seconds of video, then black and grey vertical lines. Sound is OK.

Earlier in this thread it was suggested that this may be due to NTSC signal being used when PAL was expected, but the VCR I am using is PAL only. The adapter works OK on Mac OS X (the sound is a bit iffy) but I would like to get it working with Maverick. Any clues?

I'm seeing quite a few reports of this syndrome lately, but I remain clueless. Version 0.9 of the driver works fine for me on 32-bit Ubuntu 10.10 with PAL VHS tapes, and I doubt whether this is a 64-bit vs 32-bit issue. Does the EasyCAP have any problems on Microsoft Windows?

Hmm - I don't have Windows anymore! However, I do have a test machine running 32bit Natty. I'll try it on that and see what happens. Weird thing: when I try the NTSC script, I do get a picture that stays (but it is very scrambled and B&W) and does not go to the 'test card' black and grey screen. Also, it is strange that I do get up to 5 seconds of stable video with the PAL script.

Yes, it's odd. I own several EasyCAPs, but my only hardware is x86 and x86_64 PCs, and I have a very limited range of input sources (PAL and NTSC video tapes, plus a PAL camera). I've never encountered the symptoms "5 seconds of good video, then testcard bars". Furthermore, I never get poor quality video - it's either good or entirely absent. Crackly sound, yes - audio quality is notoriously variable from one EasyCAP to another - but video is always good for me, at least on CVBS (I don't have any S-Video equipment).

Re: Linux driver for EasyCap USB2.0 Video Adapter DC60

I recently purchased an Easycap to see if I could get it to work in Linux. (It was less than $10)

I installed the drivers for it located on SourceForge. I had to go into recovery mode to get it installed because snd_usb_audio was being used and caused it to not install otherwise.

Now that the drivers are installed, I still can't seem to get it to work. For example, trying to record with mencoder results in an endless amount of skipped frames. Also, Cheese tries to do something with it, but it just shows the spinning "loading" image forever. Here is the terminal output for mencoder:

    ryan@ryan-desktop:~$ mencoder tv:// -tv device=/dev/video0:input=1:norm=1:width=640: height=480 -vf pp=md -o Recording -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=8000
