Re: Linux driver for EasyCap USB2.0 Video Adapter DC60

Does anyone know how to use two easycap together?
When i plug the second one I successfully obtain /dev/video1 and /dev/video0 of the first one.
If I use one of them each time everything works perfectly, but when i plug the second one, the last one doesnt work.
Seems like a conflict of driver or something similar.
    Can you help me?
    Thanks,

    Marco

    I can add additional information.

When I have both two easycap plugged in, only the first that i plugged works.
    BUT...
If i use "sudo rmmod easycap"
    and the
    "sudo modprobe easycap"
I can choose which easycap start and it works.
Of course when i try to launch the other one, it doesnt work.

    Any ideas?

I think you will find that the first EasyCap will be allocated most of the USB controller bandwidth, so the second EasyCap won't run.

If your computer has more than one USB controller (I don't mean just more USB sockets connected to a single controller) they should work when correctly connected to separate controllers.

    Thank yo very much.
I thought that the problem could be linked to the bandwith, so i tried to use two different controller:
    1. first easycap was plugged on a PCI exp board with four USB
    2. second easycap was plugged in the motherboard USB.
So i'm not sure but i think they should be two different controller. Isn't it?

I think that the driver can support only one easycap.
So i'm trying to use two different driver for the two easycap.
The problem is that the two easycap have the same identifier so when i plug the second one the driver of the first one uses the device.
I should modify the driver in order to let it to use only one device (is it possible? I'm not so advanced on Unix)

With both of your EasyCap devices plugged in, they are being recognised and attached as /dev/video0 & /dev/video1. So there is not an identification problem.

There are many types of EasyCap (mine are called EzCap) and several different drivers, as you would have discovered from reading this thread.

I suggest you install qv4l2 (thats a lower case "L") and do some initial checks.

I was thinking of getting the 4 input version of this. I wanted to use it like a security DVR, and save all 4 inputs. Any idea what sort of frame rate, and at what resolution, I can save as. From the specs it says 30fps for NTSC (across all 4 channels), but with all the switching and syncing the video signal its unlikely I can get that. So was wondering what sort of frame rates people who have the 4 input version are getting.

    Hi,

I am having issues with installing the Somagic EasyCap device.
I have followed all the instructions here https://code.google.com/p/easycap-so...GettingStarted

I have managed to extract the firmware. However when I run somagic-init I get the output:
    Code:
Failed to open USB device: Permission denied
    .

When I run lsusb I get:
    Code:
Bus 002 Device 005: ID 1c88:0007 Somagic, Inc. SMI Grabber (EasyCAP DC60+ clone) (no firmware) [SMI-2021CBE]
    .

I realise that I am having issues with the firmware on the device.

Is anyone able to advise me on how to fix thir.

    Thanks,
    Rosswin
