The Ubuntu Forums have grown tremendously over the years. While we regret that we are discontinuing our Other OS Talk category, this gives us an opportunity to help other Linux distributions grow by directing traffic to the websites of these distributions.

Here is a list of the official websites for the operating systems that used to have individual forums here. We hope you are able to find further assistance from there. And finally, if you haven't yet found what you are looking for, we suggest you look for information on the DistroWatch website or you might try the multi-distribution LinuxQuestions forum.

Does windows live CD exist?

Sometimes (NOT AFTEN) it's great to have windows, like when it comes to iTunes and ipod managing and other things you cant do in ubuntu.
It's not necesary to install windows for things like that, but a live cd would be just perfect.
So does that exist?

Maybe this isn't a question for the Ubuntu forum but ok. I guess I am not the only one with that question?

Re: Does windows live CD exist?

I beleive you can make a live cd with XP: http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/
I think you need Windows already installed to be able to do this.

Re: Does windows live CD exist?

Thanks.
But yes, that's the problem.
I tried to search for live cd torrents and on amule but no luck.
Since I do not have windows installed and do not want to install it either, this is hard.

There's no legal way to have a Windows "Live CD" I've seen somethings similar, kind of live cd for illegal vista installation. Anyway I think you'll never get a microsft windows livecd

An illegal live cd for vista? Is that like a recreated vista without the registration stuff then? and do you have a link to one of those?

We don't espouse piracy on these forums. If you don't have a legal copy of Windows, I think this discussion is over.

Re: Does windows live CD exist?

I rarely use the word "never", because such statements are so often proven wrong. However, I think I'm fairly safe in saying that Windows will never have a LiveCD, because that would mean that any person could run Windows on any machine that can boot from the disc. And all someone would have to do is essentially copy the cd to a partition and make it bootable, and they have an installation of Windows. Microsoft would never allow that as long as Windows is a commercial product.

They don't even like you to transfer your own paid-for copy of Windows to another computer you own. In what world would they ever produce a LiveCD???

EDIT: Of course, I'm talking about a legal version of a LiveCD. Pirates will always find a way... (Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho!...)
