dual boot vista ubuntu installer crashes right before partioner loads

I have a Lenovo T400 Thinkpad running Vista Ultimate that I'm trying to dual boot with Ubuntu 8.04.1. I've been following the instructions provided on apcmag.

I have one partion currently, and I shrank it using Vista's Disk management, to leave me with 28 Gigs of unallocated space. I then booted from the Ubuntu install CD and proceeded through the dialogs until the installer attempted to load the partitioner. Then it stopped doing anything. It didn't freeze per se, but nothing happened for quite a while. What am I doing wrong?

Boot it again. Do not import anything. If it does the same; burn a new CD.

Fixed. Thank you. I had a USB hard drive attached while I was attempting installation, after disconnecting it I had no problems.
