I'm working on this problem for a friend who's new to linux. When he logs in to his myspace IM with pidgin the whole program shuts down.
Running pidgin through terminal it gives this error message after shut down:
Segmentation fault

Kudos for the quick reply. You caught me off guard. I'm not sure if it uses skype. How would I find out?

I fixed it by enabling the XMPP plugin through tools>plugins in pidgin.
