    Intel 486 ubuntu?

I have an older 486 machine just sitting around and I thought I would try to put Ubuntu Server on it. Can anyone suggest a good version for an older machine. 1/2G Ram, general Dell hardware, nothing special. Just looking for a machine to test on, build and rebuild, not looking for anything to support, just my personal test machine.

    Thanks guys for any advice.

    Ubuntu - no
DSL - Yes as long as 16 MB of memory or better

    ronnielsen1,

Thanks... I might just buy something used with a little more power...for Ubuntu and then just give DSL a try on my other.

If anyone is curious on this, I ended up putting Slackware 10.2 on my old 486 with 1/2G Ram and it runs like a champ. Just thought if anyone was looking for something similar, this might help.

    Good luck,

How functional can you get it with slack? Plenty of packages?

    486 ? 1/G ram as in 512MB?

Please tell, what make and model of 486 is that? In the days when 486 motherboards were made, 16 or 64MB memory was commonly the maximum supported.
There are no dumb questions, just dumb answers.
