the color of the mouse doesn't change when i switch it in the appearance manager. however, when i put the cursor over a window sometimes it shows the color i changed it to. i'm stumped, can anyone help me?

If you're using Compiz effects, you have to change the pointer theme in the General settings of Compiz in addition to the Gnome Appearance settings.
