    No matter what I set in the Firestarter preferences, it still keeps recognizing the Internet card as local and the local as Internet.

    Whenever I activate the local connection, the machine will pick the local connection for Internet access. I have to turn the local off to get access.

    Re: Howto Share internet connection

    Hello there,

    Behind eth0's ip I have routed a subnet. I use one of the ips on a winxp machine.
    Some web pages don't work at all, some do, and I don't know why.
    Can you please help?

    Thanks

    Re: Howto Share internet connection

    OK, here's my network setup (or what I'm hoping to get it to be);

    WAY the heck ancient computer connecting to sprint wireless boradband (using ubuntu 9.10 server with non-pae kernel) AND acting as a router for the network it shares the 'net connection TO;

    Ubuntu 9.10 desktop and windows XP home clients (I plan on making it a Kubuntu box when windows bombs out once again), with a FreeNAS box running as a file server for both ICS clients (will set it up to do RSYNC of certain files I want updated across machines when I can UTFM).

    My question is; can this be done as I'm envisioning it? If so, plz tell how. If not, plz tell why.

    TIA.

    Nevermind. after a good bit of bashing, I found that I don't have the needed hardware for that setup.

    When I try the first step I get

    ip: Unknown host
    ifconfig: `--help' gives usage information

    switch on your wi-fi
    left click on network icon
    click on create new wireless connection
    give a network name
    choose wireless security: WEP 128-bit Passphrase
    give any key
    done.

    now check this network in the computer to which u want to share.
    and give the same key.
