Question Photoshop alternative is Gimp on Kubuntu ?

I'm trying to switch completely from XP to Ubuntu or Kubuntu.

I read that Gimp was a reasonable replacement for Photoshop and that I would have to use Kubuntu to use Gimp.

All i do in Gimp/Photoshop is crop images and resize them.

Is this the optimum solution ? (Gimp on Kubuntu).
Or is there something I can use in Ubuntu ?

From reading the forums, i get the feeling I'd be safer sticking to Ubuntu ?

    Many thanks for any help,

What you read is wrong. GIMP is compatible with any Linux distro, including Ubuntu. And yes, it is a good solution for what you use it for. A little complicated, but the online documentation is pretty informative.

For what you are doing, you might want to take a look at fotoxx. It's not a full featured editor like GIMP but it will do what you are asking.

If you do a lot of resizing you might want to take a look at Phatch (it is in the repos). It is an excellent software for batch resizing.

Look also at Krita, although that may be more horsepower than you need.
