But they can't see your 'porn collection'. They might be able to see the sites that you, or someone who was using your computer, visited. But what is actually on your computer I think would be unknown. As far as a search engine and browser go anyway. I still don't think that their gathering the info they do could be all THAT bad... More thoughts still welcome.

That was actually the point that I was asking about. I have seen a lot of posts that worry about his, and I wonder why it is an issue. There tracking is for advertising and money making, and can actually help you by giving you ads on things you actually care about (not just ****** and cialas)

Re: If Google can produce such a good browser...

I think Google might see an opening there, if they put out a commercial OS that was stable, because so many people use Google, they would consider it over Windows. It could be more profitable for them to go away from Linux and just produce an OS them selfs. Which in turn, would hurt Linux more in my opinion.

I tried Chrome and it caused my first ever BSOD on a 3 1/2 year old computer. I think I'll wait until it's out of beta before I try it again.

+1 That's how I see it too. They are concerned about making money only. They couldn't care less if someone is huddled in a corner chatting with "Hotbuns69@aol.com"

Because, if necessary, the government (NSA included) can get information from them.

They can get that with or without Google Chrome. Believe that. I worry more about those zealots in the recording and movie industry more.

I think gOS would be a good start for them. And it is a Debian based distro (Ubuntu 8.04.1) I fired up a live cd of it today. Linux would be an obvious choice I would think.
