How is Wine not Linux?

You are a Ubuntu developer and you don't know the difference between running natively and running in an emulator?

Running using the instructions on tombuntu, chrome runs pretty well and very fast! FF takes an eon to start on my machine chrome is there almost immediately.

FF may be taking aeons to start due to extensions and even update checks for FF and its extensions which you can disable to speed up the startup a little...

I have verified you no longer need a native version of winhttp.dll
I have also removed riched20 and riched32.dll installed with winetricks to get chrome working.

so it seems you now only need to run:
(sudo) apt-get install wine-dev (to get 1.1.4)
and then start chrome with "--new-http --in-process-plugins"

No more need to download extra dll's

If anyone is still having trouble with winetricks here's a list of directory's I had to chown with my username

~/.winetrickscache
~/.wine/drive_c/winetrickstmp

I managed to kinda install chrome. I cannot go on the internet with it...it's like chrome cannot connect on internet.
