[SOLVED] Can't burn DVD-R, only DVD+R

I have been trying to burn an .iso onto a DVD-R. I didn't have problems before I switched to ubuntu. When I try to right click the iso and select "write to disk" it says to insert a DVD+R or DVD+RW. When I check the settings in K3B. It says no to DVD-R(W) but Yes to DVD+R(W).

Do you think that this is a driver problem, a firmware update?

How can I burn a DVD-R?

Any help?

It's a HP DVD300i (n) drive.

I want to say that I have but after checking I'm not sure. Is there really drives that won't handle DVD-R's?

Edit: Just looks like I'm dumb. I thought it was +/- but its only +.

Yeah I thought I had a drive that could handle DVD-R and DVD+R but apparently mine could only handle writing to DVD+R. Why... I have no idea.

I only had -R's so I just picked up some +R's and it works now.

Makes sense. I suppose my case is the same, a hardware issue with no work arounds. Do wish I hadn't bought these dvd-r's now.
