Hardy 8.04 : is there a list of PCI wireless cards that work?

As a fairly new Ubuntu user, I'm trying to stick at it but it's not easy. I've been through this cycle a few times in recent months...
    1. install Hardy
    2. go through the pain of NDISWRAPPER etc to get RA61 card working
    3. something goes badly wrong!
    4. loop back to step 1

Recently the Synaptic update pulled in something which trashed my network again and WPA wouldn't work. I tried to restore my tar ball and found it was corrupt in the middle of its sticky centre!

Knowing that this problem just consumes whole weekends if you let it, I thought "lets buy a PCI wireless card that's known to run WPA on Hardy". btw I have a AMD Sempron system.

The hardware list seems a bit out of date or at least not so straight forward for me. So what works and won't cost me the earth please?

Thanks, yes I've seen that but I didn't find it easy to use as a shopping list
