Amarok starts playing CD then stops then starts again

Fresh install of Hardy and trying to get Amarok to play nice. I put in a CD and it plays about 6 seconds of a song, stops and then starts playing again where it stopped for another 6 seconds.

I tried switching the settings to Alsa, to Pulse and so on but no love.

Also, when I hit play man it seems like it takes forever for the CD to start playing.

Rhythmbox plays CDs fine but I'd like to get Amarok up and running.

Any thoughts or ideas greatly appreciated, thanks.

This is probably a dumb question, but does Amarok do this for all your CDs? Does the same CD play nice with Rhythmbox and not with Amarok? Is your CDDB enabled?
This can cause amarok to wait a bit before playing the CD. If it's a compiled CD, then it might take even longer. You might want to disable this and see if you get the same behavior. As for your audio settings, leave them at Automatic (BTW, alsa is ok but pulse... not so much).

Amarok is a more memory intensive program than rhythmbox or most of the other players. It takes a while to get started up, but after that it should run normally. My guess is the cd is either scratched/some weird copy protection. Does Amarok play other cds fine?

Thanks for the heads up about the slow start up for Amarok.

It has the start stop or start pause restart issue with all CDs.

Rhythmbox and Banshee don't have these issues at all. Maybe I'll use the two of them to do what I want.

Any ideas though as to how I can get Amarok to work smoothly still appreciated.
