dvd-rw and hd on same IDE tape: really an issue?

So I have a uATX mobo with 2 SATA II ports and IDE/ATA-100 tape with 2 devices allowed.
Right now I have 2 SATA II hard drives and an DVD-RW and another hard drive on the IDE/ATA-100 tape or whatever they call it. My DVD drive's setup paper (which I ignored) says not to put a DVD drive on the same bus as a HD (Citing slowdowns or something). Well, I did it anyway (don't have a choice, really), and I'm wondering if that was just a BS warning as I haven't noticed any problems... (about all I use the DVD drive for anyway is installing ubuntu or watching a DVD).

It seems like there're a lot of unneeded and unexplained directives on electronics.
