Printer that 'just works' with 8.04

I tried and tried to get my mom's CX8400 to work but it just won't work reliably. SO I have decied to get a new printer for her.

You see, she lives 15-20 miles away and when something doesn't work I get the call, it was a stretch to get her on Ubuntu, but now that she is there she loves it. Her comments were funny, it just seems to work, where windows didn't? ..

So we won one person over, but now she is ready to go back since she can't print.

So my question is, what printer can I buy 50-75 dollar range (New Egg, Tiger Direct, etc..) that will work out of the box?

I have seen HP's work, but I want a specific model I can buy that one..

Thanks in advance for the help...

ps. I have a cheap CX8400 if anyone wants one...

Have a look at this page:

I have an Epson R340, it just works, it's easy to setup and I've never had any problems with it.

Thats what I started with and if you search for CX8400 it says it works fine, but I haven't had that experience, and others I think feel the same way, hence the reason why I asked here for a 50-70 dollar printer that I can buy today that just 'works'.

No hassles, again not for me, but for my mom. So not much configuration is needed, since it just has to work for her.

Me, I can make it work, and probably will once I get it to my house, but i want one that works.

I see HP is popular but there are so many models (some not listed) that I am not 100% sure which to get. Will probably make another trip to Fry's tomorrow to take a look, but....

    Any help would be appreciated...

HP's generally work out of the box. Check out the HPLIP site.
