No logout after upgrade to Hardy

After upgrading to Hardy from Gutsy I no longer can logout. Clicking the logout button brings me to a black screen and that's it. I then have to push the reset button on my desktop and reboot. I can shut down OK and I can restart OK and I can switch users OK but I cannot logout. Thanks for the help.

For what it is worth I now find out other ID's on the same machine can logout just fine and I can do a ctrl+alt+backspace to logout but just not use the GUI.

Hi i have the same problem. When I logout I get a black screen. My computer is a Dell Inspiron 8600 1.7GHz with a Ati Radeon 9600 Turbo Pro graphic card. I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 Gnome.
