    Trying to get 1680x1050 rez

I know that this has been posted ad nauseum but after a disaterous attempt at trying to change my screen rez to native 1680x1050 I decided to ask the question directly.

I've viewed all the posts under "How to install ATI driver..."

The two methods were catastrophic, all other methods I simply don't understand. The restricted driver is installed but not enabled, and enabling is what causes the problem, so that's not the solution.

    Does anyone have a solution?

    ATI Radeon X700
Lastest drivers d/l and installed but not activated.

You do need to enable the driver, but then configure it.

Check the box in hardware drivers to enable it and reboot. When you reboot, you'll probably be in low graphics mode. Go ahead and select the option to configure if ubuntu gives it and manually set your resolution. If that fails, you'll have to edit a file which I can help you with.
check out linuxmce! It's the future of home media centers. It is flat out the most amazing piece of linux software I've ever seen.
