    Unhappy USB Harddrive dead?

I have been using this hard drive with Hardy for a while. It has all my music + hmwk + other necessities. Now, it stopped showing up on the desktop, and in nautilus. I see "USB device" but when i try and open it, it says it cant mount it. I booted into XP, and it couldn't see it there either.

I installed Gparted, to see if there's an error with the partition. Gparted sees the drive "/dev/sdb", but instead of showing an ntfs partiton, it tells me that the 27.97 GB of space on the drive is unallocated.

The hard drive spins, and the LED blinks sometimes.

I did drop it a week ago, but it worked perfectly up until yesterday.

1: Is it even possible for a partition to be erased out of the blue.
2: Is there any way to restore it/ any info on it?
3: How can this be prevented?
4: I miss my music, and i want it back.

Any help at all would be appreciated.
