Sweet success! I was having trouble with the madwifi install on my compaq c700 (which was working fine before ibex). Your directions were prefect. Many thanx!

I just wanna share one more tweak that i have done to my aspire one. Adding "elevator=deadline loglevel=1 console=tty1 nolapic_timer" to the kernel line in /boot/grub/menu.lst made my system a lot more responsiveness.
I got these options from the menu.lst that cames with Linpus.
Hi - can someone talk me through install those "mad wifi" drivers I have an acer one and currently no wifi (having just installed 8.10).
Go back to page one and read Drano's post.
Please don't tease me with your Acer Aspires...I want one so badly too...

I am stuck at the first stage - where do I get the software from?
#1 You said you've just installed 8.10 so I'm assuming it is already in the last stage of alpha (ibex alpha6).
#2 Go to Applications>>System>>Updates (I'm on xubuntu so try to adjust to your ubuntu)
#3 Open a terminal and:
#4 On the same terminal after the installCode:sudo apt-get install madwifi-tools
On the last line, addCode:sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
and press saveCode:blacklist ath_pci
#5 Terminal
And add to the last lineCode:sudo gedit /etc/rc.local
Code:modprobe ath5k
If anything is wrong here, please feel free to correct me.
