[SOLVED] USB Parallel Printer Cable Setup

Hi all, have been trying to install an HP Laserjet 4000 printer using an USB to Parallel Cable with no success. lsusb outputs Cypress Technologies usb connector. My system is a Compaq Presario Laptop, 1.7 GHz Celeron M, 1.5 Gb RAM, 80 GB HDD. I am running Hardy 8.04, latest kernel. TIA

Good to hear Rayaz, my only other suggestion would be to get a PCI to parallel card / get a usb printer (they're cheap anyway).
But I confess, I don't know much about usb -> parallel converters, I only know some usb -> serial stuff.
Glad to hear you got it going anyway
    Work smart, not hard.

Re: [SOLVED] USB Parallel Printer Cable Setup

I, too, am using a USB->Parallel adaptor with which to connect a parallel printer, an HP LaserJet 4L. All seems to go fine except for one thing - the system can never actually find a printer device. Just like the original poster of this thread, lsusb outputs Cypress Technologies usb connector for the port to which the adaptor is connected.

Each time a setup program tries to find the printer, nothing can be found.

I'm beginning to think it isn't possible, i.e. that Ubuntu 9.10 isn't capable of seeing a parallel printer 'hidden' behind a USB->Parallel adaptor.

All help, suggestions, or ideas are welcome.
