It depends on the definition of thread killing.

    a) If you define a thread killer as a person whose post ends the discussion, then offering a solution to a problem certainly qualifies as thread killing.
Plenty of thread killers out there?
Yet I believe this is not what this thread is about.

    b) If someone can kill a thread by posting rubbish, then that was a stupid thread anyway. Otherwise, rubbish would be ignored and a discussion would continue until a solution is found.

So I still believe nobody can stop a meaningful discussion (i.e. kill a thread), without offering a solution or reaching consensus. Hence, thread killers do not exist.

Aye, you see that is why they call me TOMBSTONE. Threads drop like flies after I visit them. Alas they are left with a TOMBSTONE to mark their demise.

    Some threads aren't problem/solution
Some threads are just for fun.
But there's always the one guy who takes it awkward.
So less awkward people move on.

Re: Are you a thread killer?

    apokkalyps I disagree with you

blnl has a point. It is not obvious, and thread killing is a way difficult notion for someone to understand. It's like trying to convince you that the interval (0,1) has the same number of points as the whole set of real numbers
    (-inf, +inf).

Yet, I'll try to give a notion in common words:

Thread killing is an act of posting in a thread in a forum, that can be identified by the following period of time. If the following period of time that nobody else post to the same thread seems to tend to infinity, and the thread is still unsolved, then the last post's author can be charged with the crime of thread killing.

Thread killers are usually innocent mainstream computer users who declare the similarity of their problem with enthusiasm, when the thread owner himself fed up and broke his pc and lives in some village with no electricity.

But good in the act of thread killing are also young enthusiasts nerds who are keen on helping people with great posts of programming and hacking into the core of the problem.

Usually this is a standard characteristic among thread killers... enthusiasm!

The diference between the above is the moment the thread owner decides to break his pc and go to live to a village without electricity,
In the first case the moment is unknown.
