When my son wants to visit a new site, he will have to ask for permission. Then I put that site into the whitelist thus granting access to that site. Is there something like this? I heard about Dansgardian, but that needs a proxy which i dont have, and is not user specific.
I guess this could be done with IP tables, or some firewall?
I use a Firefox addon called ProCon Latte - it restricts web sites by examining their content for explicit material, etc. . It is a mature add-on, easy to install and configure to your own purposes. You can get it here: http://procon.mozdev.org/ or go to the Firefox add-on and search for it.

    Hope this helps.

Re: Account Lease time / Content filtering

I was using timekpr yesterday and my son was logged in. I logged him out so that I could grant permission for the entire day. This didn't work, it simply logged him out as normal.

When his time had been used up, I was not able to grant him further allocations. I think it might occur because he had logged in before I changed his restrictions. Has anyone else seen this behaviour or can reproduce it ?

I am using 0.2.2b7 on Intrepid.

I've not had that happen. Try logging him out before making any changes, then logging him back in. That's how I do it...

Did you adjust/disable the "access duration" or "time frame" or both? Or did you use the "Bypass for today" button?

I _think_ you just disabled the "time frame", and forgot about the "time limit".

If he is logged out his account is locked, you need to unlock it AND give permission to log in again ("access duration" and "time frame").

Please, do some more testing, it might be a real bug (but I can't reproduce it). If it happens again, tell us what you did as detailed as possible, and attach the log (/var/log/timekpr.log).

The tray icon acctually has a transparent background. Have a look at it here.

The reason you see that "ugly" gray background is that KDE3 doesn't handle tray icons acording to the freedesktop.org standards. This is not a problem in Gnome, Xfce or KDE4. Since KDE4 is getting more and more stable I don't think we will fix this before we have to. I remember Gaim (now Pidgin) had that problem also when I used it.

From memory, I think I just selected "Bypass for today", believing that would be sufficient. However, I am happy to do further testing, though it may not be for a while as I am busy over the Christmas period.

If you pressed "Bypass for today" then you disabled the "time frame" limitation, NOT the "access duration". So, in fact, you got what you asked for!

But, I agree, the GUI is not completely clear on this. Maybe we can put in some work on that for the 0.2.3 version? We might make some different wording and some tooltips. Any ideas?
