WMV/Quicktime/DIVX Doesn't work in firefox

Hey I got Ubuntu a week ago and I love it. I messed around to get videos to work in browser. Youtube works fine (video kind of choppy though. it's watchable)

I wanted to watch some vids on CNN and olympic vids on the official site, no work =\

Apparently those sites need wmv. So I installed this mplayer thing according to many blogs. Still doesn't work

Notice that totem and mplayer both handle a lot of things, I don't know if that's conflicting everything.

I also tried watching a video on Apple.com, still no work =\

Uninstall the MPlayer plugin for Mozilla.
Now that you have the correct GStreamer plugins installed the default Totem Mozilla plugin will work fine.

You don't need any 3rd party software (Medibuntu etc.) to fix this. Ubuntu comes with all the components you need.

First enable the "multiverse" repository in System > Administration > Software Sources. Then, if you encounter a video that doesn't play in Firefox, right-click the video frame on the page and choose "Open in movie player" from the pop-up menu. This will open the video stream in Totem, Ubuntu's default media player.

Here's the interesting part: Whenever you open an unknown video or audio format in Totem, it will automatically tell you which plugins need to be installed to play the format. These plugins usually reside in the "multiverse" repository, which is why you should have enabled it in advance. After downloading the plugins, close Totem and reload the page in Firefox. The video should now play fine.
