Good gaming card compatability in Ubuntu

I'm looking to upgrade my video card, but I'm not sure what to go for. I'm willing to spend around... $150 or so. Possibly a little bit more.
Right now I've got an Nvidia Geforce 7300GS and it works well enough, but it doesn't really work for more high end gaming. Since I'm dual booting Windows and Linux I need the card to work well with both operating systems.

I'm really not much of a hardware guy, so any help would be appreciated.

I have the Nvidia 8500GT 512mb card. Cost me about £40.

Pretty good card, although it depends on what you want to play.

I'm sure that most cards will work.

The 8800GT is a pretty awesome card, but the 9600GT is over rated so I've heard. Both will work with Ubuntu.

It seems also that most cards from the 8 series up are supported.

Have a look on the Nvidia drivers site and see if they allow you to download them.

When you get your card, I recommend using Envy to install it.

I think you might be wrong, just briefly compare the topics:
(those two cards I'm now deciding which to buy)

The users of NVidia are going crazy.

ATI does have problems but it looks far better in overall.
So I think I'm going with the ATI.
