I have had Ubuntu 8.04 installed for some time with Virtual Box. My setup is such that on boot, VirtualBox opens XP on my second monitor and I have been able to use everything as normal.

Recently I noticed that XP (in VirtualBox) was behaving in an odd way. If I tried to open My Computer, the explorer window would hang and I would just get that annoying torch going back and foward. Normally I would have to reboot the virtual machine to get any where. I was able to run all my programs as normal and I could go straight to My Documents, for example, or even my mapped drive, just not My Computer.

I thought that I had possibly corrupted the virtual machine as I never shut it down first, I always let Ubuntu do it when I turn the PC off.

I then tried a trial of VMWare Workstation and it does exactly the same! This time it takes aound 10 minutes to finally show My Computer!

I have defragged the machine but with no luck.

I am worried now that there is a fault onmy PC and not just the Virtual Machines!
