    how to develop applications in c++

    hi every one
    i am very new to ubuntu.
    i got things set by now.

    i was a serious c++ programmer in windows platform.
    i fell in love with ubuntu..
    i develop applications to run robots..
    some thing related to ports embedded systems etc.. in c++

    can any one help me in giving some initializations and declarations for me
    to start up in ubuntu.
    some thing like..
    developing environment..
    settings.. and ...

    You will need the build-essential package to compile c++.
    gcc is the compiler of choice on Linux. use make to assist with building.
    vi is my favorite editor. Its very powerful but also takes time to learn. Not sure what the best IDE for Linux/c++ is.

    I'm pretty sure g++ is the only c++ compiler that is part of the gnu compiler collection. Its certainly the standard and the default. Its what gets used when you call gcc on a .cpp file.
