Laptop screen dims when plugged in

I'm having a strange problem where by my dell xps m1530 laptop screen dims when plugged into the mains and get brighter when on battery power. I'm pretty certain i didn't change any settings that would cause this backward behavior, can anyone suggest how i can fix this?

Same problem. Screen dims when I unplug it, (which is good) then dims even more when I plug the AC back in. (Bad.)

Does your laptop have keys to increase/decrease brightness?

I have this same problem, I just go back into the settings and raise the brightness back up to full once I have it plugged in.
