Hope this will help, Please forgive the M$ analogies I'm a recent Ubuntu convert, Just switched from M$ recently... try the command line and enter ifconfig it will list your Internet configurations (ipconfig M$) add the -a and it will show you all connections (ipconfig/all) this will tell you if you are connected, next, are you running a dual boot and able to connect from Vista? if so then download the Drivers you need to run the device to a Flashdrive. reboot into your *nix program and install the Driver from there. If you can post back the results of your ifconfig It might help some of the uber geeks lead you in the right direction to fix said connection

This is too messy, just go for a clean install. This is very strange, in your case, the internet connection should work out of the box.

*nix, means a unix based operating system.

    Re: Help! Ubuntu won't boot!

I believe you are in single user mode. I never typed the command runlevel so I don't know what the output would be. From the man page N means there is no history of previous run level and I am guessing S means single user mode.

    try switching run levels

    Code:
    telinit 2
    --edit

oh, crap. i see now you went into recovery mode on purpose. I don't believe you have network access when in single user mode. Although, someone can verify this because I am not totally sure.

If you are trying to reinstall packages you would need network services.

Thats fine, changing your runlevel is supposed to enable networking services.
