Okay, I Googled and searched the forums, but couldn't find an answer to this quesiton:

Using this HowTo on backing up and restoring, can I back up my system in the state it is now to a tgz file on an external drive, then reinstall using the 8.04 alternate CD using full drive encryption with the same partition scheme, then restore using the above tgz file without any adverse effects? I'm thinking that this probably won't work, but to reinstall and manually reconfigure my laptop (older Toshiba Satellite, Pentium M 1.73GHz, 1.5 GB of RAM) is an awful lot of work.

If the above won't work, is there a way for me to list all installed packages so I can closely re-create my original setup? I also have a custom menu.lst and other config files, but restoring these manually should be no big deal. Thanks!
