Lost desktop appearance settings, Weird.

HELP !!, I have lost the use of my desktop appearance settings. I d'l'ed a font pkg for MS true type fonts (thats the only thing I can tie it to) and about the same time, my title bar is some kind of goofy font called "tommy gun" which I cannot change, much less begin to read, and when I go into my appearance settings, the pgm is all but locked up, I cannot change anything. I have looked at Google and the forum search to no avail. Can anyone please help??? Thanks.

try for it in system--preferences-appearances. its for ubuntu.

Sheesh. Where did you download the fonts package from? The repos or a website?

Thats no help, where do you think I went to access the system preferences,? Under system, preferences. Its locked up.

Could someone else please take a shot here?
