Gsynaptics no sometimes not able to initialize; SHMconf is on

For some reason gsynaptics is sometimes unable to initialize even though SHMconf is set to "on" in my xorg.conf file. When it does initialize, everything is fine (scrolling works, tapping is disabled how I want it, and the mouse moves at normal speed). However, there will be many occasions where I start my computer, log on, and find that the mouse moves more quickly than normal, scrolling does not work, and tapping is magically turned back on. Not only do I get the error with gsynaptics, but the touchpad tab also disappears from the mouse preferences window. Any help is appreciated.
Edit: I just tried turning off SHMconfig and setting everything up through the xorg.conf file to see if it would resolve the issue. However, it still seems like sometimes the settings are completely ignored when I log on. I'm starting to think this might be a bug. Heres my xorg.conf file:
    Code:
    # xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file)
    #
    # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
    # values from the debconf database.
    #
    # Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page.
    # (Type "man xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
    #
    # This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
    # if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
    # package.
    #
    # If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
    # again, run the following command:
    # sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
