Question Can't connect to unsecure public wifi network.

I use attwifi on a regular basis, I have a subscription. It's an unsecured public wifi network in airports, coffee shops, book stores, etc... There is no security.

I can connect to anything secured with Ubuntu WEP, WPA, etc... Just not attwifi (no security). Wifi manager shows it as WPA when it's not and it keeps asking me for the passphrase for attwifi.

I can connect just fine with windows. I used to be able to connect to it with ubuntu until the latest kernel upgrade.

Anybody know how I can connect to the unsecure network? Possibly a way to force it to connect unsecured?

    Thanks.

    Ubuntu Hardy, Acer Aspire 5720Z.
Using madwifi on AR5007EG, followed the step by step in another thread to get it working (works great other than this).

    EDIT:
Installed WICD and it's working now. It would be nice to know why gnome-network-manager wouldn't see attwifi as an open network and understand how to connect through command interface maybe.
