    Question /Home location and performance

OK, when I was using a Mac, there were major performance benefits of having /home on it's own drive on a separate channel.

Are there any major gains to be had by shifting my home dir to it's own drive in Ubuntu? Or will it just be a perceived gain due to 2 hard drives being able to seek different locations at the same time, as was the case on my Mac?

    Many thanks

    Re: /Home location and performance

I have my /home on a separate drive to the system, and have also had, at times, a test system with its' own /home on the same drive on this machine. I don't do anything labour intensive, I should say, but I didn't notice any real difference. I have also not seen any referance anywhere to anything along those lines. I think the main advantage of a separate /home partition is to be able to re-mount it when you re-install, and it doesn't have to be on a different drive for that.
