Finding a newly installed program Plus

This concern is regarding my going to search finding audacity download and seemingly downloaded. I went to search within ubuntu 8.04 typed in Audacity and got nothing. Could not find it
This is a two fold question and the second part is after I find Audacity and am using it in ubuntu do I have to do anything to get ubuntu to recognize my high end mike a Sampsom.
Thank you for your patience and any advice.

There is a shorthand method for opening a program in linux:
    Alt+F2
will open a dialogue box type part of the program name and the system should find and fill in the rest of the name-then you just press enter to start the selected program.

For your mic take a look at the "Audio Capture" section in the General Configuration heading at this page.
