immediate update when security updates avaliable

hey..

I was thinking the other day.. when you update, there are some security updates as well from time to time..

So meaning that there is a time window that your system has those potential security flaws from the time the updates are available to the time you update for attackers to google the security update flaws and exploit them..

Is there a way to be notified whenever security updates are avaliable other than checking it every day/hour/etc..?

(I'm referring for example to be notified by the server when there are new security updates like avast pro edition or something)

grrr... don't you think this is a kind of a security hole in a way?

I'm guessing that the servers where you get the updates from get the updates as soon as their'e released, so this is only a end-user issue?

I don't think it's a security hole... once one has been discovered and fixed it gets passed down and put into the repos...

some other companies only run updates once per month
