    Start PCManFM (file manager).

    PCManFM sidebar by default (on the left) shows shortcuts in order top to bottom: Home Folder, Desktop, Trash, Applications.

    11.10: Side pane needs to be set to Places. View > Side Pane > Places.
    11.04: Side pane only shows Places.

    Trash is also accessible from Go > Trash Can.

    For sidebar, right click on Trash to empty.

    Note: This is true for Lubuntu, as I am using it at the moment. I expect it would be the same in LXDE installed within Ubuntu, but perhaps it's not for some reason.
