    commercial dvd playback

okay so I bought a dvd player/writer from lite-on, installed it, and followed all the steps posted in various places about libdvdread and such, but they won't play. I have tried VLC, mplayer, xine, and totem.

Either nothing comes up or I get the copyright info then nothing. The dvd mounts and I can see all the files, so it's not a problem with the drive. It works in windows xp with the trial version of nero showtime that was included (but not wmp).
