Gnome Splash ends as soon as it loads Nautilus

I've been trying to set up a splash screen for a while now and I'm being plagued by one problem in particular: my splash screen will show three icons (I don't know what those icons are), say it loaded Nautilus, and then quit. There will then be another five seconds or so until the desktop even appears, and even then things like compiz and my screenlets need to load. I've done a fair bit of searching on this issue, but so far all I've been able to find is this bug in launchpad: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ion/+bug/59479

So does anyone have any idea what could be the cause of this or some possible workarounds?

Also, if this is not possible, would I be able to get my background image to display while everything is loading rather than a solid color?

    Thank you.
