Re: Automatix and Ultamatix discussion thread

From what I remember, right before the death of Automatix, it's devs made up with the Ubuntu devs and were working closely with them to get it to be more of a favorable thing. If that's the case, why would the Ubuntu devs be mad about someone continuing the project?

Well automatix was a great tool for beginners in the early days, but with add/remove getting more added into it each time its use became almost null.
Medibuntu can pick up the slack though.

For the love of God, use PPAs!

    https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+ppas
    http://www.ubuntu.com/news/launchpad-ppa
    https://help.launchpad.net/PPAQuickStart

Okay, we could use a nice catalogue of useful PPAs... maybe a handler for a special uri / file that sets up PPA repository sources. That is all.

The platform has evolved way past needing Automatix. The platform also does not like redundant package management systems.
To continue developing Automatix is a waste of everyone's time.

Yes I did keep you name in the credits. I did clean up a bunch of your code no pun intended, you are more then welcome to it, a majority of the bugs were in the bash section of the code, you did a pretty good job & should be proud of your work.

Just so everyone knows it uses my repos & mediaubuntus, it will also install bin files something that is not going to happen through synaptec or any other package manager for that matter. America's Army is not in the repos, return to castle wolfenstien just to name a few...

I have fixed about 95 % of what is on his list and will eventually fix everything. I am no newbie to programming.

Why would you want to do that?
Don't try to make something "fast" until you are able to quantify "slow".

    Re: Ultamatix

Just a note - do not use ultamatix.

Because a) it's nothing special. All games are available from applications - add/remove, or getdeb.net, and b) it can break your computer, badly (link).

What the application claims to do is nothing special since all that done is already, and it is very, very sloppily coded.
