    Talking 256MB RAM upgrade =)

Just installed a 256MB RAM chip into my old compaq desktop here, and now it's running like a new computer!!! Amazing what RAM will do to a computer.

Yup, upgraded my desktop today from 1 GB to 2 GB RAM, and the difference is very noticable...(hardy, compiz running)
I remember reading in some other thread that Ubuntu would not notice much difference between 1 or 2 Gb ram
    ...not!

I've never gotten Hardy to actively use more than 400 megs of RAM at once, so it seems like 2 gigs of RAM wouldn't make a difference. But Ubuntu also uses the rest of your ram as a cache of anything you've opened recently, and clears it out as needed. So more ram = more cache = faster over experience.

With the memory that was already in there I'm now at 384MB.

Would that also explain the remarkably faster boot time?
