    Ubuntu hangs after logon

    • Ubuntu hangs after I put my user name and password
    • I can boot up in fail safe mode though
    • This is the first time that I've experienced this

Not sure exactly where to go from here but your help would be greatly appreciated so I dont have to do a reformat. Didn't do anything different from my normal boot up but there was an update that came up (some ip netfilter update) that I let the system install. Once I rebooted the system and logged on using my username and password, it when to the next screen and never made it to the desktop. My mouse was moveable. Hope this is enough information to get to the root of my challenge. Thank you.

I'm in the same boat, except sometimes, it goes to the desktop.
Still, all I can do is move the mouse and go back to login using CTRL-ALT-Backspace.

I don't know anything beyond that, but I think its a GNOME problem.

it went to the desktop, but I couldn't deal with that so I moved all my media files to my other ubuntu and redid this laptop.
