    Problems with Xorg.conf

I've recently upgraded to 8.04.1 and some weird things are happening with X. My GDM screen is always positioned to the far right, almost like I have a larger screen and at times I can't even see the login area. I've set my monitor type and the res to 1280 x 960, but when I reboot it defaults back to a lower res. Here is my xorg.conf file.

    Thanks,
    Bill

    Re: Problems with Xorg.conf

Hi and it appears you are using the nv driver and you may use this command to adjust your resolutions
    Code:
    gksu displayconfig-gtk
Or you may choose to change the driver to the nvidia and install nvidia settings and then you can use the settings to change the resolution.
    Code:
    gksu nvidia-settings

    Re: Problems with Xorg.conf

I think I can see your problem:
    Code:
    Section "Screen"
    	Identifier	"Default Screen"
    	Monitor "Configured Monitor"
    	Device "Configured Video Device"
    	Defaultdepth	24
    	SubSection "Display"
    		Depth	24
    		Virtual	2048	1536
    		Modes "1280x960@85"	"1280x1024@85"	"1280x960@60"	"1280x1024@60"	"1280x1024@75"	"1280x960@75"	"1152x864@75"	"1400x1050@60"	"1024x768@43"	"1400x1050@75"	"1024x768@60"	"1600x1200@65"	"1024x768@70"	"1600x1200@60"	"1024x768@75"	"1600x1200@75"	"1024x768@85"	"1600x1200@70"	"832x624@75"	"1600x1200@85"	"800x600@60"	"1792x1344@75"	"800x600@85"	"1792x1344@60"	"800x600@75"	"1856x1392@60"	"800x600@72"	"1920x1440@60"	"800x600@56"	"2048x1536@60"	"640x480@85"	"640x480@75"	"640x480@72"	"640x480@60"
    	EndSubSection
    EndSection
In the above you have a section that says virtual & is set to 2048 x 1536.
Change the two numbers to a lower resolution & restart. Sometimes a logoff works.
Do not put an x between the numbers, it is meant to be blank.
    Hope it helps.
