    [SOLVED] Question about Apple warranty...

    Hi,
I heard, through these forums actually, that installing Ubuntu on my iMac has voided my warranty. One, Is this true?

..and Two, IF.. I were wanting to try to remedy this, could a Time Machine backup be used so that my hard drive would be reformatted and any previous install of Ubuntu would be wiped out?

I've heard that given normal procedures like boot camp or whatever else, it is very hard to merge/rejoin a partitioned hard drive on a Mac. So I figure, a reformat plus using Time Machine might be the only remedy.

    Does this make sense?

Many Thanks for any information on this,

    Frank B.

Technicly, yea it does, but still. All you would have to do is repartition your hard drive if you have a software problem and need to use the warranty, or if it's a hardware problem, you should be fine because I doubt that they will look at what's on your hard drive. I don't think that it's really a big deal, because apple computers rarely break bad enough to use the warranty.

Thanks for responding. Is repartitioning something I can do from the Mac OS or from boot camp?

    Re: Question about Apple warranty...

I've brought my MacBook twice to an Apple support for hardware failures and I had a dual boot of Ubuntu and Mac OS.
The warranty worked both times and they didn't even care if I had installed anything on it or changed the setup in anyway.
Maybe it depends on where you bring it though, but I didn't even know this could be an issue...

    Re: Question about Apple warranty...

Yea I think it depends on your local Apple store (or Apple specialist). Some places are very helpful and will even help you get Ubuntu working on it, other places will not even touch it. If push comes to shove, just use gparted to delete the Linux partitions and it will just look like blank space on the end of your drive. There is nothing wrong with that.
