[SOLVED] Drivers for Dell Inbuilt Webcam?

I hope someone can help i have a Dell SP2208WFP flat screen monitor which has a built in webcam which i would like to be able to use on Ubuntu...are there any drivers available? (i presumed as it's dell that they would have official drivers...how silly of me ) maybe some generic drivers?

    Thanks in advance

Re: Drivers for Dell Inbuilt Webcam?

open a terminal and post the output of
    Code:
    lspci
    and
    Code:
    lsusb
so we can see if Ubuntu is even seeing the webcam
    Debian Testing(64bit) + XFCE4 AM2 5200+ ATI Radeon HD4350, 4gig RAM,320Gig and 750gig HDs

what's the difference between an answer and a solution? An answer is what they want to hear, a solution is what they don't want to hear

I was looking at that and thinking it is a creative labs webcam so hopefully we are both right

the good thing is Ubuntu is seeing the hardware. I have a creatice cam as well and if I remember right, all I did was plug it in and it worked. Do you have any software installed yet that can use the cam?

ok, looks like it needs the spca5xx drivers. you can get them from here:

Hmmm... I've just spotted something on the ubuntu wiki pages it says that since gutsy the spca5xx driver has been replaced by gspca which comes already installed on ubuntu

so i tried what the wiki tells you to do which is to run:

    Code:
    lsmod | grep gspca
to see if the module has been loaded..which it hadn't so i then ran:

    Code:
    sudo modprobe gspca
now according to the wiki pages this should fix it well it hasn't

I'm really confused do i need the spca5xx driver if it's predecessor is built into ubuntu...?

    Wiki page in question: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Spca5xx
