upgrade 32bit to 64bit

Is there a way to upgrade an existing 32bit-system to a 64-bit-system?

I run 32-bit systems on 64-bit-hardware and I think its time to get a first look on 64bit, so I could check it out. Additionally I have 8Gigs on several machines, which still is a problem with 32-bit to me. (see my other post about PAE-kernel).

I run 7.10 and 8.04-machines, so the question applies to both ubuntu-versions.

Additionally: How do I find out if my hardware is 64bit-able if I'm not sure. I know for my Xeon-machines, but on two older machines, I am not sure:

No, there is not. To get 64-bit, you must install with the 64-bit of Hardy Heron or whatever version you wish to use.
